SURVEILLANCE AND RECONNAISSANCE TECHNIQUESFOR CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL THREATS

European Defence Fund (EDF) announces funding for cutting-edge research project to develop miniature HT-GC-IMS devices and advanced AI techniques, to measure chemical and biological warfare agents.

Brussels, Belgium - The European Union is proud to announce that the project “Surveillance and Reconnaissance Techniques for Chemical and Biological Threats (TeChBioT)” is awarded 4.3 mio € of funding from the European Defence Fund (EDF) to develop a miniaturized, low cost, high temperature GC-IMS instrument. Supported by novel Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deep Learning (DL) techniques, the project aims to distinguish low volatile chemical warfare agents (CWA), toxic industrial compounds (TIC), bacteria, fungi, viruses and other biological warfare agents (BWA) in a variety of relevant scenarios.

Interscience Expert Center (IS-X) and its manager, Prof. Dr. Joeri Vercammen, are responsible for the development, validation and transfer of novel analytical methods to measure non-volatile CWA and BWA.
